O Megaupload foi um sucesso de p�blico e um desastre no trato com as autoridades, levando ao seu encerramento abrupto com o confisco do dom�nio pelo FBI. Depois, Kim Dotcom apresentou o MEGA, que est� a� at� hoje, mas sem a participa��o do executivo fundador do neg�cio. Agora, o espalhafatoso milion�rio tem um novo projeto para armazenamento e compartilhamento de arquivos chamado �K.im�.
O servi�o chegou a ser apelidado de �Megaupload 2� durante a fase de desenvolvimento, mas agora tem um nome oficial, e, na pr�tica, funciona de uma forma completamente diferente do projeto original.
A ideia do K.im � uma forma de distribui��o de conte�do envolvendo microtransa��es, e o download s� pode ser feito ap�s a instala��o de plugin no navegador ou por um aplicativo no celular. O K.im funciona em conjunto com a ferramenta Bitcache, de forma que cada download � vinculado a uma transa��o de bitcoins.
Mais do que um servi�o de armazenamento em nuvem, a ideia � realmente criar uma plataforma de distribui��o. Isso abre espa�o, sim, para a pirataria lucrar ao liberar para download conte�do protegido por direitos autorais. No entanto, Kim Dotcom tem uma proposta que ele promete ser a revolu��o nos direitos autorais, funcionando tanto para o p�blico quanto para as empresas.
O empres�rio sabe que seu servi�o pode ser usado para a pirataria, ent�o ele prop�e um sistema similar ao do YouTube. Se, por um acaso, um conte�do pirateado for disponibilizado na plataforma, o detentor dos direitos autorais tem a possibilidade de reclamar a posse daquele conte�do. O material n�o ser� removido, mas a empresa tem a possibilidade de alterar o pre�o de acordo com o que achar justo e receber todo o dinheiro da venda.
Segundo Dotcom, a pirataria, em muitos casos, se d� pela dificuldade de obter acesso a determinados conte�dos por problemas como restri��es geogr�ficas. Ele acredita que essa solu��o � boa tanto para as empresas quanto para as pessoas que querem pagar pelo material, mas s�o for�adas a baixar de gra�a na internet por n�o terem acesso de outra forma ou por precisar assinar v�rios servi�os ao mesmo tempo.
Para completar, o servi�o n�o ser� uma plataforma de armazenamento, porque n�o dever� armazenar nenhum arquivo por conta pr�pria. Usu�rios poder�o guardar seus arquivos em servi�os como Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive e tantos outros, e at� mesmo torrents. O K.im criptografa esses documentos, de forma que eles s� podem ser acessados pelo seu servi�o, no app ou na extens�o de navegador.
A quest�o que fica � se haver� ades�o a esse servi�o. Ele tem algumas ideias interessantes sobre distribui��o e monetiza��o, mas depende de alguns fatores para funcionar: empresas dispostas a negociar seu conte�do dessa forma, usu�rios dispostos a pagar e apoio dos distribuidores piratas e comunidade de torrents.
O site j� existe, mas por enquanto ele ainda n�o est� funcionando para todos. Dotcom liberou uma demonstra��o para um n�mero limitado de pessoas, com a possibilidade de solicitar um convite, e sua expectativa � liberar o servi�o para o p�blico na segunda metade de 2018.
