Hackers and Cyber Threat Intelligence
Hackers and Cyber Threat Intelligence
Every day we use some kind of computer connection, whether it is to find something on the internet, call someone, make a bank transfer or send commands to our server. Not only do connections enhance the way we live, but we rely on them on a daily basis, so it is essential to protect those connections.
Hackers are mostly computer experts capable of breaching the security of networks and computer systems. Most of them do it for fun, to find weaknesses so they can help remove them, or because of some protest. Only a few want to steal, change or destroy information and in that case they mostly focus on big corporations or government entities, so there is a small chance of being hacked if you are an individual. To break into a computer system, hackers exploit weaknesses or bugs, install dangerous malware such as computer viruses, worms, trojan horses and other malicious programs on your computer without your knowledge. Malware most commonly gets access to your device through the internet, via emails, scam and phishing websites, or via anything you download. If the malware is on your computer, every time you connect to the internet your information could be transmitted.
To protect us from hackers there is an activity called Cyber Threat Intelligence. CTIs goal is to gather information using different sources and to analyze trends in Cyber-crime, Cyber activism and Cyber espionage. Essentially its used to collect information and to protect us from any kind of threats. The gathered information is used by the government or organizations so they can create preventive measures in advance.
In the next post I will write about the methods CTI uses to collect intelligence and how those methods can be used against one of the medias best known hacker group - Anonymous.
