Fixing notification issues on LeEco devices

Fixing notification issues on LeEco devices

Overview

Like many Chinese phone manufacturers, LeEco tailor their devices to be very aggressive in closing down applications and services in the background which can lead to missed notifications.

In this post I will outline the modifications required to minimise this issue, along with a few other tips on setting up a LeEco device.

Auto Launch

Settings / Permissions / You have allowed n apps to auto launch

Select all the applications that are allowed to start up when the phone boots. This should include all apps for which you require notifications - e.g. email clients, messenger applications, social network apps etc.

Power Saving Management

Settings / Battery / Power saving management

Ultra-long standby during sleep - turn off
Lock-screen cleanup - turn off
App protection - select all apps from which you require notifications
Battery assistant - turn off

While in the Battery section, I like to enable Status bar - battery percentage

Background Resource Control

Dial *#*#46360000#*#*

Enable background resource control - turn off

Notification management

Settings / Notification management

This allows us to define notification type on a per-app basis. The defaults for this are usually acceptable, but it is worth taking a look at the options available here.

Settings / Display / LED notification light

Enable Others if you wish to have a visual notification from third party applications.

Mobile data restriction

Downloads app / Settings

In order to download apps and files over the mobile / cell network we need to lift the restriction.

Data connection download notice - No limit.

VOLTE for Lineage os for all devices coming soon 4G Support enabled

VOLTE for Lineage os for all devices coming soon 4G Support enabled

Lineage os will going to get volte support for all devices having lineage os 13.0 marshmallow and lineageos 14.0 nougat.
Weve seen an inordinate amount of people asking two questions:
What is the LineageOS Mascot?

Where is VoLTE?

Were extremely surprised lots of users seem to already know the name for our mascot; clearly some something got leaked.
Over the next week, VoLTE will be rolling out to all devices, regardless of hardware support.

Alongside this, WiFi and mobile data (subject to signal strength), will be now using the experimental Aqua protocol, so its super-duper fast! Bear in mind this feature will only work underwater.

Br0Zip: a new era of ROM building

We know our users; their biggest desire is to be able to get a stable custom rom on their device. Painlessly.
Lineage supports a lot of devices, but this big number is still small when compared to the amount of the devices available in the market.
One of our main goals is to bring the latest Android version to all those forgotten devices, but we also focus on user experience and security improvements.

The main problem with this cool thing is that you need a developer that builds and fixes all the bugs. Its a pain, weve done it many times.
But these days are gone now. Were deprecating maintainers. Yeah - you read it right.
Were proud to annouce our AI-powered revolutionary product called Br0zip.

Br0zipperEngine, is a powerful AI that powers Br0Zip. Given any .zip ROM or .img kernel of any device (yeah - any device) itll be able to generate a properly working ROM.

Its cool, isnt it? But wait - theres more: we believe customization is important, and thats why we implemented a feature selector in the ROM builder wizard, so you can make your ROM truly yours.
Anyone, including those who have never touched a single line of code now can be a talented developer and create their own bugless custom ROM for their device in seconds.

The best thing? It runs directly on your phone - you dont even need a supercomputer.Br0zip trial will included for free in the LineageOS builds.

MIUI 9 Rom Download, Supported Devices, Features and Release Date [Nougat 7.0] If you were to translate the name MIUI to English, it would probably sound something like meeooee. This ROM was initially developed only for Chinese users, based on the FroYo build of Android and totally localized with Chinese locale and language. The group behind the ROM had no intention of bringing it to other devices at the beginning, but as of now, several ports have surfaced for various other devices and with translations.

Extracting system features on Android devices

Extracting system features on Android devices

I am trying to build a lightweight host based intrusion detection system for Android devices. The project is based on the previously developed Andromaly framework for detecting malware on Android mobile devices. Unfortunately, the Andromaly project has been shut down for some time because of uncertain reasons.

The main goal of the project is to create an application that will determine whether some other application is normal or malicious. In order to do so, my application will collect certain system features from the device and apply machine learning algorithms to create a model that will be able to properly classify new applications as normal or malicious. The features will be collected when both normal and malicious applications are running on the device.

The authors of Andromaly framework noted that these six features differ the most from normal and malicious applications: Anonymous_Pages, Total_Entities, Battery_Temperature, Running_Processes, Mapped_Pages, Garbage_Collection. So, the first step in the project was to extract these features from an Android device.

The amount of memory used for anonymous pages can be easily obtained from the file /proc/meminfo which can be accessed on any Android device. Inside the file there is an entry named AnonPages, which contains the amount of memory used for anonymous pages expressed in kilobytes. In the same way one can get the amount of memory used for mapped pages which is stored in the Mapped entry.

The number of total entities on the system can be obtained from the file /proc/loadavg. In that file the first three numbers show the number of running tasks on the system averaged over the last 1, 5 and 15 minutes. The fourth entry shows the current number of runable task and the total number of entities(tasks) in the system.

The current battery temperature can be accessed via the Android API. In order to get the battery temperature we need to listen to an intent(ACTION_BATTERY_CHANGED) and register a receiver when that intent is fired. In the receiver we can then get the current battery temperature. This can be seen in the code below.

Code 1. Getting battery temperature from a device

The number of running application processes on a device can also be accessed with the Android API. Firstly it is necessary to retrieve an ActivityManager instance which holds the global system state. Once the ActivityManager is obtained it can be used to return a list of all application processes currently on the system. The code can be seen below.

Code 2. Retrieving the number of running processes

The last feature, Garbage_Collection, is a bit tricky, since I am not sure what the authors of Andromaly framework meant by it. One idea is that this feature was meant to show how often the Android garbage collector is called, but I was not able to get that information at this moment. The entire project is open source and under GNU General Public License version 3.

The code can be found on Github: Anomaly Detector
