This is not a test Google Optimize now free — for everyone

This is not a test Google Optimize now free — for everyone

Businesses often have one big question for us: How can they better understand their website visitors and deliver more relevant, engaging experiences?

To help businesses test and take action, last spring we launched our enterprise-class A/B testing and personalization product, Google Optimize 360. We saw great demand, so we made it more accessible with a free beta version last fall and that response also exceeded our expectations, with over 250,000 users requesting an Optimize account.

Today were very excited to announce that both Optimize and Optimize 360 are now out of beta. And Optimize is now immediately available to everyone for free. This is not a test: You can start using it today.

Easy to implement

A recent survey showed 45% of small and medium businesses dont optimize their websites through A/B testing.1 The two most common reasons given were a "lack of employee resources" and "lack of knowledge to get started."

If youre part of that 45%, Optimize is a great choice for you. Optimize has many of the same features as Optimize 360. Its just right for small and medium-sized businesses who need powerful testing, but dont have the budget or team resources for an enterprise-level solution. Optimize is easy for anyone to set up. Early users of Optimize have been happy with how easy it is to use. In fact, its built right on top of Analytics, so if youre already an Analytics user youll add just a single line of code to get Optimize up and running. With just a few clicks more, you can start using your Analytics data to design experiments and improve the online experience for your users.

Easy to use

Worried about having to hire someone to run A/B tests on your site, or frustrated about not knowing how to do it yourself? Dont be. The Optimize visual editor allows for WYSIWYG (what-you-see-is-what-you-get) editing so you can change just about anything on your site with a drag and a drop. And more advanced users will enjoy the ability to edit raw HTML or add JavaScript or CSS rules directly in the editor.

Powerful targeting capabilities within Optimize allow you to serve the right experiences to just the right set of users. And you have flexible URL targeting capabilities to create simple or complex rules for the pages where you want your experiment to run. To find out if a targeting rule youve set will apply to a specific URL on your site, use the new Optimize URL tester. Just enter a URL and the tester will immediately tell you if that page is a match for your targeting rule.

Easy to understand

Optimize calculates results based on your existing Analytics metrics and objectives using advanced Bayesian methods, so the reporting shows you exactly what you need to know to make better and faster decisions.

Weve also upgraded the improvement overview (see image above) to help you quickly see how an experiment affects the metrics you care about most, whether that means purchases, pageviews, session lengths, or whatever else youre tracking in Analytics.

Easy to try

Leading businesses are building a culture of growth that embraces the use of data and testing to improve the customer experience every day. Were delighted to offer Optimize to everyone to help deliver better user experiences across the board.

As of today, Optimize is available in over 180 countries. (A special note for our European users: Weve added a new data processing amendment to the Google Optimize Terms of Service that you may review in the UI and accept if you wish.) And were not done yet: Keep an eye out for more improvements and announcements in the future.

What are you waiting for? Try it right now!

Happy Optimizing!

VAIOs Windows 10 powered Phone Biz is now available for purchase

VAIOs Windows 10 powered Phone Biz is now available for purchase

Remember the Phone Biz, which was announced by erstwhile Sony brand VAIO back in February this year? Well, the device is now available for purchase, although currently only in Sonys home country of Japan.

The 5.5-inch, Win10-powered handset went on pre-order last month, and shipments have now begun. If you missed the pre-order opportunity, youll be glad to know that phone is also available for purchase from the VAIO store.

Whats worth mentioning is that the Phone Biz is listed on VAIOs website for JPY 59,184 (around $535), which is different (and considerably up) from the JPY 50,000 ($430) price tag that the company revealed when the device was announced.

For those in the US, sadly, the company has already confirmed that it currently has no plans to launch to device in the country.

Hagupit now a super typhoon JTWC

Hagupit now a super typhoon JTWC

Graphic warning for tropical storm "Hagupit" by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center

MANILA The Hawaii-based Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) of the US Navy has categorized tropical cyclone Hagupit into a super typhoon.
The JTWC, in an update issued at 5 a.m. Thursday (Manila time), said Hagupit was maintaining a west-northwestward trajectory under the steering influence of the subtropical ridge."
This means that Hagupit was heading towards the Philippines as its upward movement was being blocked by the subtropical ridge, a large belt of high pressure in the northern hemisphere that is referred to as an anti-cyclone system.
The JTWC said as of 2 a.m. Thursday, Hagupit was packing 1-minute sustained winds of 240 kilometers per hour (130 knots) and gusts of 296 kph (160 knots).
The JTWC forecasts Hagupit to pack as much as 296 kph (160 knots) winds by December 7 (Sunday), 2 a.m., when it is nearer the Philippines.
In the JTWC model, Hagupit is seen heading slightly north and towards Luzon, avoiding the Yolanda-hit region of Visayas.
The system will start to track slightly to the north at this timeframe. Expect favorable sea surface temperatures, along with continually favorable upper-level conditions to allow the system to further intensify, it said.
Philippine state weather bureau PAGASA, meanwhile, said Hagupit which was locally named Ruby after it entered the Philippine area of responsibility today was packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gusts of up to 210 kph.
PAGASA said Hagupit was spotted 942 kms east northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur as of 4 a.m. It said Hagupit slowed down, moving west northwest at 25 kph.

RED ALERT
The Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System, meanwhile, has raised a red alert for Hagupit. It said the typhoon can have a high humanitarian impact based on the maximum sustained wind speed and the affected population and their vulnerability."The GDACS said the population that could be affected by Category 1 (120 kph) wind speeds or higher is 200,000.

Google Cast is the next evolution of Chromecast now with an accent on third party support

Google Cast is the next evolution of Chromecast now with an accent on third party support

Googles own video and audio casting platform seems to have undergone a significant image change. If you are currently using a Chromecast device, you might have noticed that after its last update, the Chromecast app is now called Google Cast. Not much has changed withing the update in terms of functionality, but the re-branding is definitely more than mere cosmetic work.

Like the new name suggests, Google is now branching out and trying to convey the message that its casting solution is no longer a proprietary thing. Besides its own dongles, the platform is now supported by a growing number of smart TVs from vendors like Sony and Sharp, as well as speakers. The list of third-party partners is also growing, Philips, B&O PLAY, Harman/Kardon and Raumfeld are all lined up to release audio equipment and VIZIO is the latest company to join in the Google casting ranks with both audio and video offers. Its new P-series TVs are now filly compatible with the streaming technology and some of them even come with their own little tablet-like remote device that can be used to stream content. Neat!

This, actually looks to be indicative of what is going on behind the scenes and it is really quite natural. All these third party partners simply seem to be integrating the Chromecast hardware within their systems. It is elegant and cheap and makes quite a lot of sense when you think about it.

And if the VIZIO TVs just happen to spike your interest, they will be available in a wide range of sizes, starting at 50 inches for $1,000 and moving up to 55 inches at $1,300, 65 inches at $2,000 and finally a 75-inch one that will set you back $3,800.

VLC 2 0 for Android is out now with network browsing

VLC 2 0 for Android is out now with network browsing

After what seemed like age-long testing, VLC for Android 2.0 has graduated to stable release. Some things do take a long time to perfect, just remember how long Gmail had its "beta" subtitle and when it comes to LVC, there is definitely a reputation to live up to.

The main highlight of VLC 2.0 is its eagerly-anticipated network browsing feature, which is finally added to the mix. As fans would expect, it offers quite a versatile list of supported protocols, including Windows shares, UPnP, NFS, FTP and SFTP.
Another major milestone achieved through version 2.0 is the merge between the general Android and Android TV versions of the software. This not only unifies the experience and ensures quick update dissipation, but has also allowed VideoLAN to leave both the standard and TV interfaces in. You can switch between them on any of your devices right from the settings menu.
Other improvements in the new version include faster decoding and playback of all video types and a few rewritten components, like the notification controls and pop-up video. You can bet that there is still a lot more to come from the VideoLAN. For now, you can head on over to the Google Play store or hit the source link to get the update.
